Christine Cassidy FOR COUNCIL
“A common-sense approach that puts citizens first”
Following the Second World War and the political crises of the 1950s, my family emigrated from Britain to Vancouver, settling in West Vancouver, Eagle Harbour, in 1961. What ensued for us, was the struggle of many immigrant families to understand and to succeed in a new environment. My parents instilled in me a strong work ethic, the value of a good education and a passionate commitment to community, especially West Vancouver.   I was elected to council in 2014 and I ran for mayor in 2018, because I wanted to give a voice to the priorities and values expressed by West Vancouver citizens.   I am again running for council to further this objective and to ensure that citizens' values are,in fact, reflected in council's decisions. Residents must be listened to and have the issues that are important to them addressed by their elected officials.   I believe that the changes we make and the developments we approve must maintain or improve our current residents' quality of life. I am confident that with my experience and common-sense, I can proactively assist in intelligent  planning for strategic development that does not undermine our seaside, village -like character or overwhelm our infrastructure.   I will work with the mayor, my fellow councillors and members of staff in a collaborative, thoughtful and respectful manner to create fiscal policies and development strategies that will guide West Vancouver into the future.   In summation, I have listened and I have learned; I will put citizens' needs and interests first, for they are West Vancouver.     As your elected official: I will take a fiscally responsible approach to spending, to ensure that we are achieving the best value for your tax dollars; I will advocate to protect our natural environment for future generations’ enjoyment, by ensuring that there is no future building on our waterfront or above the 1200 foot mark;   I will ensure that neighbourhood character throughout West Vancouver is respected and strengthened as we add a diversity of housing to attract young families to our community and to allow seniors to downsize and age in place;   I will support Local Area Plans that reflect the existing seaside character of our community, that address the expectations of our citizens and that seek to revitalize and energize our business districts;   I wll support  Arts and Culture strategies which satisfy the community's needs and which are financially viable;   I will work collaboratively with North Vancouver and First Nations Councils to address our mutual problematic traffic and infrastructive issues. We need to speak as a unified voice to work towards a successful resolution of our traffic congestion and infrastructure needs.       Putting CItizens First    West Vancouver is a SPECIAL place.
